What a fun weekend we had and almost none of it was garden-related! VPH and I traveled up to Boston Saturday afternoon and spent the night at our favorite Boston-adjacent hotel, the Quincy Marriott. Another fantastic dinner from room service and a quiet night of TV followed by an early morning on Sunday so we could head into the city proper to the Prudential Center where I had an audition for Jeopardy. It was a really fun morning and if I ever get a call to go out and be on the show I'll tell you about it.
By the time we arrived back at home on Sunday afternoon, the sun had emerged and the thermometer hit 70! I hung out on the patio for a little while and tried to only see the one blooming wildflower and not the mess in the wildflower patch:
There are, however, may of these tall plants:
That when you get really close look like they're about to bloom purple:
I hope this is the beginning of a trend -- a purple and green trend. The lettuce box is jumping right in:
Can you believe I've had this camera for 2.5 years and I've only just figured out how to choose a focal point not in the center of the frame? An insect's view of the lettuce:
I have lots of blooms on the vinca, which are, as their common name implies, periwinkle:
But this one is purple:
And although this one is periwinkle, its shape is completely different:
I can't remember if I mentioned that the lawnmower crapped out, but I threw it up on Freecycle and someone came to get it yesterday. Meanwhile 2 days of rain and 1 of sun have given us ridiculously tall grass (where we have grass), so VPH and I will be picking up a push reel mower this afternoon. I have a feeling I will also be picking up other stuff at HD, including a bunch of annuals.
I will now go write minutes on my patio.
