1. If I wait long enough flowers will come:
And they will be gorgeous:
2.) At night crocuses close their little blooms and sleep:
3.) Bleeding hearts will successfully overwinter in a container:
4.) As will heuchera (though there's no sign of the hosta that should still be in this container):
Look at those adorable little leaves:
The hosta in the perennial shade garden is starting to pop out:
At this point in the day (Tuesday) I had gone inside and thought I was done taking photos. Then I heard a ruckus outside and looked out the window to find:
And out the front door:
Yup, after 11 years of promising, the landlord finally arranged to have 3 trees taken down along the house:
I went out to run errands and escape the noise, but before I left I asked the nice tree men to leave me level stumps so I could put containers on top of them. They certainly left a mess:
5.) Tree men (or at least these tree men) don't quite understand the term "level":
Now before you get all excited that I'll be able to plant anything not specifically for shade, there's still plenty of tree canopy:
VPH says he's going to feel a little exposed grilling over here now:
But I've already started buying containers to fill the void:
I can't wait until it looks like this again (last May):
It was nice enough outside today that I really felt guilty for not spending the day cleaning up the garden, but I just couldn't find the motivation. Soon.
Won't it be fun being able to alter your landscape? Your crocuses are adorable -- gardening does teach us patience, doesn't it?

Nancy -- I just wish there was more sun over there, fewer roots, and less of a slope. Then I could really garden it up!

Sometimes the hostas are really late to pop up. Love your crocus bed and 'level' stumps. I guess level is a relative term. Who knew?

Layanee -- You'll see in today's post that the other hosta has shown up. The tree guys also left a lot of cut branches all over the place. Probably a good reason they were able to take down 3 large trees for $700 total!
