I can report that the weather here on Marco Island has been less than stellar over the last week, but despite this current temp:
I just spent 90 minutes by the pool in my bathing suit. I am going home tan damn it! So what if my toes were numb and my fingers stiff. The normal temperature here this time of year is high 70s. Don't cry too much for us, we did have fairly nice weather last week, it's just that first VPH was sick and then I got it...well it's not been the ideal trip south. But I did rally to spend some time with my sister and her husband over the weekend, and then some with my mom and her husband. And we missed 2 snow storms back home, so definitely not a wasted trip. And did I mention I'm going home tan?
The good news is that the weather looks clear all the way north this weekend. The plan is to drive 15.5 hours to just south of Richmond on Saturday, then after some quality hotel time, do the last 7.5 hours home in plenty of time for the Oscars on our own couch. We have family and friends at the 12 hour mark who have offered us a free place to crash, but somehow driving two 12-hour days is harder on us mentally.
I heard that at least one friend has flowers poking up in her yard at home and the forecast for the week is high 40s, low 50s, which is much nicer than what we left behind on February 18th. I can't wait to see if any of my bulbs are making a break for it! And maybe this year it will actually be warm enough to plant peas on St. Patrick's Day as the old-timers recommend for my area.
Good bye, my daughter, I'm going to miss you. It was so nice to have you and VPH near.
Never heard about planting peas on St. Pat's - I should have planted some here six weeks ago! Who knew??
Travel safe and stay warm - I'm looking forward to more of your 'Yankee' Spring garden info when you get back.

Mom -- We like being near too. Safely home and enjoying the Oscars from our comfy couch on our HD TV, truly one of the only things we miss down there (along with good pizza). Ironic that the temp as we reached CT was 57.
