I really shouldn't complain, we didn't get nearly as much as other portions of the Northeast. My garden's a little bit wet, but not flooded thanks to the slight hill we're on. We drove by a house today less than a mile from ours with a swamp for a front lawn and could only wonder what their basement looked like. Before the massive rain I took a page out of Layanee's book and burned my grass. I may also cut it back since it didn't burn all that evenly:
But the rains brought some good things...peas! There are still a few that haven't come up, but the ground is cracked above where I planted them, so I can tell they're pushing their way out. I have a row of little pea sprouts:
I thought about cutting the Endless Summer hydrangea back hard (people around here do that for some reason), but opted not to (yes, I clearly need to fix that circle of stones, but am resisting running out in the dark with a flashlight to do it right now):
The crocuses are pretty much done flowering and the daffodils are not blooming as much as I would like, but maybe I'll get more soon. I have high hopes for the tulips:
I'm still not quite at the point of dealing with the containers of herbs yet, but only one container seems to have cracked over the winter. It will be sealed with liquid nails because it's one of my favorites:
But I still went to Ocean State Job Lots and bought more containers because really, people, I have a problem. But at these prices I couldn't resist and in fact, may have to go back for more:
Remember the fun slope that now will have at least partial sun because that huge tree was removed:
While I worked away on the most boring work-related stuff you could possibly imagine, VPH spent the morning raking it and cutting down last year's brush:
Then I filled a bowl with enough wildflower seed to cover 600 sq. ft. -- this area was 440 sq. ft., but I'm a fan of over seeding (that's VPH's hand):
Then since he did all the hard work, I let him have the fun of scattering the seed:
I had a few random old moonflower seeds from last year, so I planted them around the stump where I could see them out the living room window (that's my hand):
We have big developments inside too, almost 100% germination in the seed tray:
Even the tomatoes:
I think one of these might be calendar-worthy, but I'm not sure which is better:
Leave me a comment and let me know which you think is stronger:
And I'll leave you with my other current obsession...hydrangeas:
This is the second of four pots of hydrangea bulbs that I've purchased over the last four weeks. One will go with us to Easter dinner on Sunday as a hostess gift (not this one, another that's not quite blooming yet, but hopefully will just be on Sunday). This one is behind me as I type and I'm loving the scent. Please ignore our ugly blue carpet, remember it's a rental. Those are all my seeds by the remotes on the couch. Much time has been spent dreaming about what will go where.
Don't forget to tell me which of those seedling photos is calendar-worthy.
your seedlings all look nice - it's always exciting for me to see those fresh sprouts popping up! those ARE pretty good prices on those pots, i wouldn't have passed them up either. :) good luck on those wildflowers - ours are up hear and almost ready to bloom - i can't wait!

Are the rows of tag-alonged seedlings in the running for calendar display?
I would call it something like 'high hopes' or 'great expectations.... anyway, I find it inspiring, and charming.

Joseph -- They have those prices at Ocean State all the time, it's so hard not to buy all of them!
Mom -- I like that row of seedlings photo too, but it's portrait orientation and the calendars are landscape orientation.

Love all the different blue pots. For the calendar, my pick would be the little seedlings with the blue basil tag. Great job. My seedlings are not nearly so well organized.

Kate -- I hope you checked out the following post to see where all the fun blue pots landed. I'm with you, that photo is my preference of the two as well.

It is a VERY good thing I do not live near this Ocean State place. I love your pots!!
That reminds me - I need to flip to April on your calendar :)

Jennah -- It's really a problem for me. If we ever move from here I'm going to need a truck just for my containers. I had trouble turning to April too.
