Carol's been hosting GBBD for years over at May Dreams Garden, and now I'm a monthly participant after years of observing. And there's a lot blooming in my garden this month. I'll give you a tour of the garden starting from the front door. The Purple Gem rhododendrons in the two containers flanking the front steps are done blooming (well only one actually bloomed) and they're still leafing out, but the impatiens add color and along with the creeping jenny fill out the interior of the container:
English Daisy, a purple calibrachoa, and the few straggling flowers on the pink creeping phlox (the big black container is red potatoes and a Husky cherry tomato is tucked in the right):
I love how the shadow of the blooming white salvia was in such sharp relief on the fence:
A lavender creeping phlox at left and white calibrachoa in the near hanging basket:
And on the table a gerbera daisy in a galvanized pail that was the centerpiece at a benefit dinner that I attended last week. I wouldn't have purchased it, but I'm glad that my tablemates send it home with me because I'm enjoying it a lot:
A bunch of marigolds that will be planted with the tomatoes today:
Leftover impatiens on the greenhouse shelves, a purple calibrachoa in the hanging basket, and a few blooms left on a purple creeping phlox down on the right:
Hot pink calibrachoa in the hanging basket on the left, white salvia in the green container, strawberries in the little blue pots, and chives in the far blue pot:
A funky double-blossom dark pink calibrachoa in the center and chives in the brown hanging basket on the right:
The azalea in the Mother's Day garden is still blooming away:
And I totally cheated on this one by buying a "patio" tomato plant with blooms and actual fruit on it already at Walmart, but it was only $13 and we'll be eating tomatoes in June:
Moving over to the patio garden where a lot is happening:
You may have noticed the iris blooming above. Here's a close-up of the bearded beauty:
We planted the passalong rhizomes back in the fall of 2008 and this is the first time they've bloomed, so indulge me and look at another photo:
Another plant that I've waited two years to see blooming -- lupin -- and it looks like it will match the iris:
The Blue Mist clematis that the boys got me for Mother's Day is almost blooming...maybe it will be the same color too:
And the Siberian iris is very nearly there, but I know it's a darker purple:
The bleeding hearts (dicentra) are fading to a light pink, but they're still pretty:
Impatiens in the hanging baskets along the walk on the shady side of the house:
Another two on top of the huge stump (it's full of carpenter ants so I can't put anything heavy up there):
Just about to bloom is one of the astilbe that I bought bare-root from Home Depot last year. I'm so excited to see it flower:
A few flowers on the white creeping phlox (I'm not feeling too good about the survival of this plant, it's not looking good), and the astilbe is blooming though it's tough to see with all the background chaos:
And that brings us full circle back to the front of the house. I hope you enjoyed your tour...I know I enjoyed leading it.
That lupine is obviously going to be stunning by next month. What kind is it?

Iris and Bleeding Hearts - oh my! I am so nostalgic for New England's Spring.
Thanks for the tour. It's exciting to see all you done in the last three years!

Gayle -- I wish I knew, but I didn't actually plant it there on purpose. That garden used to be a wildflower mix and I think it was a leftover seed or was planted by a bird.
Ruth -- Thanks, I have way too many pots, but I love them so.
Mom -- You should come see in person!
A Garden of Threads -- Thanks, I'm enjoying it quite a bit too.
