It's officially tomato season here. Today's harvest included a decent amount of roma tomatoes, which Lee and SS2 had with basil over angel-hair pasta for dinner. What did I have? I went to a friend's son's little league game and had McDonald's with her. I know, it doesn't seem quite fair to me either. A few cherry tomatoes at the bottom, another purple Cherokee and the first green zebra rounded out the basket:
The Friday dinner at Buffa10 included door-prizes. We 'won' a t-shirt and some dried lavender, but our table-mates, the lovely Shayna of Botanical Interests and her husband, won a Cobrahead Weeder & Cultivator which had everyone at our table commenting in delight. I had to admit I'd never heard of a Cobrahead and said so to Shayna. She said she already had one and it was the best tool and quickly offered us her new one. So I suggested giving her the t-shirt we had won and quickly exchanged with her husband. I'm afraid it wasn't a very fair trade. This afternoon I asked Lee to pull some grass that was spreading into the patio garden and he went over to get a weeding tool he gave me for Christmas a few years ago. I quickly suggested he use the Cobrahead instead:
He even used it to pry out the stones that are supposed to edge the garden. I just asked him what he thought of the tool and he said, "I didn't really use it enough to form an opinion." So I asked if he was excited to use it again, and received a resounding, "Yes!" in response. I think it was the right tool for the job:
This spider is hanging out above the potted herbs in the chives on the greenhouse shelves. I've no idea what the white band in the web is, but it's what caught my eye:
And speaking of attention...driving home from the baseball game this evening I was struck by how beautiful the rising moon was and drove down to the Point to get a better look (no trees down there to block my view):
And then I turned around, walked back to my completely illegally parked car on the other side of the street and snapped this photo of the sunset:
I love living here.
You have it all! Lucky you! I only have a couple of cherry tomatoes ripening, but I do have a couple of visiting grandsons who are helping pick blueberries and raspberries.

The tomatoes look great! I saw a spider in a similar web last year. Turns out the females spin the usual spiral web and the males add the zigzag part. I seem to remember something about the male needing the female to approve of the zigzag he's spun so she'll mate with him.

Oooh, that looks like a really cool tool!

Commonweeder -- I guess I really do. It's tough to complain when life is this good.
Kate -- Thanks for the info on the spider, I'll have to see what I can find. That's very interesting.
Meemsnyc -- It is! They're very affordable, you should pick one up.

?Cobrahead? Will it rip out grass? - especially the huge mounds of grass growing in my front flowerbeds. Can't grow a lawn here - but grass runs rampant everywhere else.
As of today, all eight cuke seeds are up, and starting their secondary leaves. Our 'rainy' season has been very hot, and dry, so daily early-morning watering is necessary.Oh, purchased a lovely scented English lavender yesterday. The nurseryman's son assured me that it would be o.k.throughout the Summer if I watered it daily, too. We'll see....
